Answers to the questions we get asked most often

FAQs

What is circular fashion?

It’s about reusing the resources that already exist in the fashion industry.

Making a circle with your purchases and avoiding the need to create new garments and materials by using what is already in circulation.

Buying pre-loved clothes is just one step in creating a closed-loop system. By keeping products and materials in use we’re extending the life of garments and reducing material and resource waste.

But for the fashion industry to be truly regenerative we need more manufacturers to design waste and pollution out of their production processes and source materials that can actively feed naural resources back into the planet when the garments use eventually comes to an end

What does "slow fashion" mean?

Slow fashion is a growing movement of designers, makers, traders and manufacturers who are challenging fast and ultra-fast fashion by rejecting trends (and now thanks to Tik Tok, micro-trends) instead creating timeless designs with premium, long-lasting quality.

As well as scaling-back production to reduce excessive waste, they adopt practices that are less harmful on the environment and are more transparent about their supply chain, opting for sustainable and, in some cases regenerative materials.

Through Your Wardrobe re-sells garments from fast-fashion brands like Zara because we care about extending the life of clothing. We believe it’s better that clothes stay in circulation rather than being burned or discarded into landfill. And until better options are more readily available, such as re-manufacturing, we encourage our customers to buy secondhand first whilst championing slow fashion brands for when buying new.

How do I sell my pre-loved clothes on your website or in your shop?

To avoid disappointment, we recommend making an appointment with us here. If you're unable to find a suitable timeslot, get in touch and we'll find something that works.

Bring your garments with you to your appointment, we'll go through them with you, make sure that you are happy with our assessment then take care of the rest.

When your garment sells, we’ll credit you with 45% of the sale price at our next payment run. We then give 10% to whichever charity we are supporting that month.

If your garment doesn't sell, we'll be in touch to ask if you want it returned or donated to charity.

Do you do clothing rentals?

No, we don’t - but you could make a purchase for the short time you need something and if you decide not to keep it, bring your garment back to us and we’ll resell it for you.

How do I know what condition the clothes I buy online will be in? are they clean?

We assess each and every piece we sell. Clothes need to be brought to us in a clean condition, either freshly washed or dry cleaned.

What is Through Your Wardrobe's connection to The Lyon The Witch & The Wardrobe?

In 2022 Through Your Wardrobe founder, Charlotte Lyon, opened the doors to our first showroom located in the market town of Rye on the Sussex Coast. The Lyon, the Witch & The Wardrobe has been bustling with pre-loved clothing aficinados ever since.

The enthusiasm for buying and selling second-hand clothes in our small, cobbled-street hometown was such an overwhelming success that we took it online so that our out-of-town visitors could keep the circular fashion movement alive from wherever they were.

We now have plans to open additional showrooms in other parts of Sussex and Kent extending the life of more clothing in the High Weald

Which charities do you support?

We choose to donate 10% of all sales to a different charity each month. Sometimes they are local to us, supporting the communities near to where our showrooms are located, and sometimes they are larger, national or international organisations.

You can see who we have supported so far on our Instagram page @throughyourwardrobe.

We listen to suggestions from our members and customers so if you have an organisation in mind that you would like to put forward, get in touch.
